Bruce Brown: A Legend in The Surf Movie World
Bruce Brown is the inventor and director of the surf classics The Endless Summer and The Endless Summer II. If you have never seen these movies, you need to. They portray the adventure of the “original” surf trip and the adventure that traveling into the unknown can provide.
Bruce Brown has also made other surf classics like Slippery When Wet, Surf Crazy, Barefoot Adventure, Surfing Hollow Days, etc. So you know, these films were shot in the late 50’s and early 60’s. These are not the high-flying, adrenaline-pumping surf films you see these days. They are simple and quirky. Bruce Brown is ingenious with his random and funny commentary throughout the movies.

Bruce Brown’s movies do a great job in catching the true spirit and enjoyment of surfing. Surfing these days has become caught up in the world of sponsors, competition, money, movies, etc. etc. and many in the lineup have lost the pure enjoyment of riding a wave and having a good time in the ocean. Whenever I watch a Bruce Brown movie I am reminded of the pure fun surfing was and should still be.
If you have Netflix and are able to watch movies instantly on your computer or T.V. through a Netflix viewing device, there are a couple of his movies in the instant viewing section. If you are looking for some surf classics, you will very much enjoy these.

I love Bruce Brown movies! After reading the post, I went to Netflix and watched 3 of them: Surfing Hollow Days, Barefoot Adventure and Surf Crazy. They are all old footage with good story/narrative.
Yeah! they are great. they really make you feel like you need to go out and surf and do it for fun instead of all the other crap that lugs along with surfing these days. ENJOY SURFING. too much time wasted over a session you wished could of had better waves or you could have done a better turn. ENJOY IT !
