Ted’s Bakery: Best Place to Eat on The North Shore
There are not very many places to stop and eat along the North Shore of Oahu. From V-land to Laniakea, there are a few small places like Kava Roots, Shark’s Cove Grill, and some roaming buses that sell a variety of local cuisine and seafood. Of course Haleiwa is not far away, and has more good places to eat than you can count, but if you are looking for somewhere quick to eat in between surf sessions, Ted’s Bakery is the spot. Located between Sunset and V-land, look for the little building with paintings of surfers at Pipeline on its walls.
It’s hard to say what Ted’s Bakery is best known for, because everyone I know loves almost everything they make. If I had to choose one thing, I’d probably start with the pies or the pastries. They make the best chocolate haupia pies, and my personal favorite is the pineapple macadamia nut cheesecake. The pastries are equally impressive. Ted’s Bakery makes traditional pastries as well as island favorites with local fruits and flavors.
Then there is the grill. Almost anything you choose off the grill will be very tasty. Finally, I have to mention the sandwiches. In the morning in a heated glass container you can find amazing breakfast sandwiches with egg, cheese, and either sausage, bacon or ham inside a homemade bun. Next to that in a cool container are the lunch sandwiches, which are the locals’ favorite.
With so many different items for sale, there is bound to be something at Ted’s Bakery that you’ll love and come back for every time you are in town. The whole Ted’s experience is really cool. It’s just a small shack off of Kam Highway. It’s not that fancy, and doesn’t look like it’s going to be anything special. Inside, there are signed surfboards and photos from visiting and local pro surfers. Outside are a bunch of tables with umbrellas to sit under and enjoy your food. It is my favorite place to show up in my boardshorts while still dripping from surfing and get some really good grinds.
