Surf Movie: A Brokedown Melody
In 2004, Woodshed Films came out with another amazing surf movie called “A Brokedown Melody.” This film, directed by Chris Malloy, is a great example of the impact that surfing has on surfers around the world. “A Brokedown Melody” takes the viewer through several surf regions, including ones in Jamaica, Hawaii, Indonesia, Tahiti, Mexico and in South America. While watching this movie, you get a good feel of not only what the surf is like in these countries, but also how the movie continues to impact people all around the world. The film portrays the journey of a group of surfers, and shows how stoked the older surfers are to pass their sport down to the next generation.
This surf movie features a number of professional surfers, including Kelly Slater, Tom Curren, Gerry Lopez, Rob Machado, The Malloys, CJ Hobgood, Jack Johnson and several others. In addition to all of the incredible surfing, they also did an amazing job with the soundtrack. “A Brokedown Melody” includes music from talented artists such as Jack Johnson, Matt Costa, Zach Gill, Kings of Convenience, Eddie Vedder, and many more.
I sincerely loved this surf movie. I thought that Chris Malloy did a great job with the cinematography, and I love the raw 16mm film style. I also thought that Jack Johnson compiled an amazing soundtrack. The movie has a mellow feel to it, and some pretty impressive surfing. “A Brokedown Melody” is an inspiring surf movie that I recommend to anyone who appreciates surfing.
