Second Thoughts: A Timmy Turner Surf Movie

Timmy Turner is one crazy guy, and probably one of the few who could produce a surf movie like “Second Thoughts”. In “Second Thoughts”, Timmy Turner and friends, Brett Swartz and Travis Potter, camp out for nearly a month on an uninhabited Indonesian Island in hopes of catching epic surf all to themselves.
They’ve been exploring this particular island for several years now and know what kinds of waves the reefs there are capable of producing. There is an incredible right and a perfect left that they are able to catch in the most perfect of conditions with no one else out.
Living on the actual island gives them the advantage of knowing when and where the waves are going off whereas the other guys traveling around on boat just have to hope they get lucky when they stop by.
You’d think you could get tired of watching the same two waves for the 40 minute length of this surf movie, but there is a lot more to Timmy Turner’s “Second Thoughts” than just the surfing. These guys document all of their experiences living on this remote Indonesian island. You get to see how gnarly of conditions they actually lived in.
At one point they wanted to surf the left on the other side of the bay so they paddled the channel of over 3 miles towing along a surfboard with some supplies to stay over night. Watching them surf the left is my favorite part of the movie. Being a goofy-foot myself, watching Timmy and his friends sit in the barrel for nearly 30 seconds makes me quite jealous.
To top everything off, there are a lot of helmet-cam shots from inside the barrel, so you get the same view as the surfers in the film. Timmy Turner’s Second Thoughts will open you up to an Indonesia you’ve never seen before. This surf movie won the Movie of the Year at the 2004 SURFER Poll and Video Awards, and has been ranked as one of my favorites ever since.
