Quiksilver’s Drop-In Surf Watch
I love to surf dawn patrol. It is one of the few things I don’t mind waking up early for. Back when I started to wake up early and hit the waves before work, school, or other things I had to do, I quickly realized that a watch is pretty essential so that I would be able to get out on time and not be late to whatever it was I had to do that day. I love watches and I didn’t want just any watch. I wanted a watch that I could wear all day. I wanted to wear it in the water and have it still be an attractive watch throughout the day. Like Tim’s Nixon watch purchase, I too found the Quiksilver Drop-In watch on Whiskeymilitia.com.
The Drop-In is everything I wanted in a surf watch. I even got the chrono version which means it has an analog stop watch built in. Some features of the watch are:
- Solid stainless steel case
- Solid stainless steel screw down case back
- Polyurethane strap
- Mineral crystal face (doesn’t scratch easily)
- Date
The watch is solid. The other day I was walking out of my apartment holding my surfboard and trying to put my watch on at the same time and I dropped it down the concrete stairs (I live on the 2nd floor). The watch bounced down the steps and I thought it was either going to be broken or scratched up bad. It had no scuffs and works fine. It can definitely take a beating.
The polyurethane strap is a must for a surf watch. Leather gets heavy and stinky after getting wet and metal straps I find to be heavy and they can scratch up your board. The polyurethane is durable and comfortable yet still looks good.
The one thing I would change about this watch to make it a little more useful as a surf watch is instead of the stop watch capabilities I would use the dials on the face to set a tide. I hardly ever use the stop watch feature and would use a tide feature more often. My friend has the Nixon Lodown and I find myself asking him all the time about the tide.
In all, if you are looking for an attractive surf watch, the Quiksilver Drop-In is a great choice.

Nice looking watch indeed, how much does it retail for?
I have seen it retail anywhere from $100 to 150 dollars.
I have been looking for a good watch for morning sessions recently. Do you know the most affordable watch with the tide option? Thanks for the post, I will definitely go with the polyurethane strap.
Jason,
Nixon, Quiksilver and Ripcurl all have watches with the tide on them. the most affordable I know of is the Ripcurl Avalon Oceantide watch. It retails around $75.00. I don’t think it is the greatest looking watch, but it will tell you the time and the tide. Fellow blogger Chris did a review on a Nixon watch I really like that is all polyurethane. It also has the tide and comes in many colors. It retails at $100. This is the link.

Good luck on your search, and enjoy those morning sessions.
